
It revolved around the development of a racing mural of gigantic proportions which would depict vividly and accurately the origins and development of thoroughbred horse-racing.
The beginnings would be traced to 17th century England, the developments would be spread to throughout the world but the main emphasis of the mural would be placed on the role of the horse in Australia. It was a grand design but was it subject to fulfilment?
The mural, which lines the roof of the Hill Stand at Flemington racecourse is living proof that the answer was 'yes'. The project, of course, had huge potential to educate and entertain not just the young and old citizens of the late 20th century but generations to come as the major art works of the old world have done.
